U.S. District Court Remains Open During Government Shutdown

Monday, October 20, 2025

On October 20, 2025, the U.S. District Court for the District of Alaska entered Phase 2 of the Government Shutdown. Please note, court hearings not otherwise suspended are being held.

The Clerk’s Office is generally open to conduct “excepted” activities necessary to perform constitutional functions under Article III of the U.S. Constitution, activities necessary for the safety of human life and protection of property, and activities otherwise authorized by federal law.

Excepted work will be performed with delayed pay during the funding lapse. We appreciate your patience and kindness as we work on continuing the mission of the U.S. Courts.

Please note the following:

  • Case Management/Electronic Case Files (CM/ECF) system will remain in operation for electronic filing of documents. Case information will be available on PACER.
  • Civil Matters involving the U.S. Government as a party are generally being held in abeyance until seven days after the restoration of congressional appropriations funding the federal government. See MGO 25-14.
  • Juneau Courthouse will be closed on Friday, October 24 and Friday, October 31, due to staffing.
  • Anchorage and Fairbanks Courthouses will be at reduced staffing levels on Friday, October 24 and Friday, October 31.
