ALERT: JURY DUTY SCAM

Wednesday, December 17, 2025

The FBI Anchorage Field Office has seen an increase in reported fraud schemes targeting Alaskans through unsolicited phone calls in which scammers impersonate law enforcement or government officials to extort money or steal personally identifiable information. For more information on the increase in fraud schemes and to learn more about scam prevention, please visit the FBI Anchorage News Webpage.

You can report scams and suspicious communications to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) here and the Internet Crime Complaint Center (ICC) here.

Neither the U.S. Marshals Service, nor the U.S. District Court, will ever call to request payment of fines over the phone for failure to appear for jury duty.

The fraudulent caller may identify themselves as an officer with local law enforcement or the U.S. Marshals Service.

To further validate their claims, the caller may also instruct you to report to your local courthouse. provide you with the name of a real judge, government employee, and/or reference a case number.

More information about this type of fraudulent activity can be found on the U.S. Courts national site.
