Monday, July 8, 2019

Jessica Yang, Natalie Fraser, Honorable Chief Judge Timothy M. Burgess, Olivia Tafs, Scott Santaella.

On May 29th, 2019 the District of Alaska hosted a Civics Contest for our local winners, which included the following: 1st Place Essay Winner, Olivia Tafs, 2nd Place Essay Winner, Natalie Fraser, 3rd Place Essay Winner, Jessica Yang. Our 1st place video contestant was Scott Santaella.

All these local winners went on to compete in the Ninth Circuit contest.  It is a great pleasure to say that Alaska’s very own Natalie Fraser went on to win 1st place in the entire Ninth Circuit contest essay portion of the contest.  Natalie will be an incoming senior at West High School in Anchorage, Alaska. She will be traveling with a parent to Spokane Washington in July 2019 for the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference. There she will have the opportunity to meet a U.S. Supreme Court Justice, will be presented an award, and will receive additional monetary compensation.

Questions regarding this contest and/or civics inquiries can be directed to the United States District Court
