Civics Contest Finalists Announced - News Release

"Not to Be Forgotten: Legal Lessons of the Japanese Internment" 
 
ANCHORAGE – Preliminary judging has been completed in the 2017 Ninth Circuit Civics Contest for high school students in the western United States, Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands. All told, over 1,000 young people entered the contest, which offers cash prizes and a chance to meet some of the nation’s preeminent jurists and legal practitioners.
 
 The winners of the essay competition are:
 
 1st, Olivia Colleen Tafs, a freshman; 2nd, Anessa Feero, a senior; and 3rd, Sarah Chen, a sophomore, all from West Anchorage High School.
 
The winners of the video competition are:
 
1st, the team of Brynn Morse and Sarah Chen, a sophomore at East Anchorage High School and a junior at West Anchorage High School, respectively.
